The atmosphere at Dharmasala is cold, windy, and exposed, but it offers stunning views of glaciers and rugged peaks. Due to its remoteness and limited facilities, rooms fill up quickly during the high seasons (March–May and September–November).

Temperatures drop below freezing at night, even in autumn and spring. Therefore, carrying extra layers, a high-quality sleeping bag (comfort rated between -15°C to -20°C), and plenty of snacks is highly recommended.

Most trekkers start their Larke La Pass crossing from Dharmasala around 4–5 AM to avoid strong winds and worsening weather conditions at the pass.
