It's situated at an altitude of approximately 4,100 meters, making it one of the higher monasteries along the trekking route. The monastery showcases traditional Buddhist architecture, decorated with colorful prayer flags and complicated murals depicting Buddhist teachings. It's renowned for its serene setting amidst the towering mountains and offers breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes.

Birendra Tal (Lake)- 3650 meters high

Birendra Tal (Lake) is a beautiful high-altitude lake located near the village of Samagaon along the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal. This serene lake is situated at an elevation of approximately 3,650 meters and offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains, including the majestic Manaslu peak.

Hikes around the Birendra Tal are necessary for trekkers preparing to cross the challenging Larke Pass during the Manaslu Circuit Trek.  Acclimatization hikes like this help your body adjust to higher altitudes and reduce the risk of altitude-related issues when crossing Larke Pass, which sits at an altitude of about 5,106 meters. It's crucial to listen to your body, stay hydrated, and allow for ample rest during these acclimatization periods.

Larke Pass (5106 meters)

Larke Pass, also known as Larkya La, is one of the high mountain passes along the Manaslu Circuit Trek in Nepal, reaching an altitude of approximately 5,106 meters (16,752 feet) above sea level. This pass is a highlight and a significant challenge for trekkers on the Manaslu Circuit trek.

Crossing Larke Pass is a demanding part of the trek due to its high altitude, steep ascent, and often snowy or icy conditions, especially during certain seasons. Trekkers usually spend several days acclimatizing before attempting the pass to reduce the risk of altitude sickness.

The pass offers stunning panoramic views of the surrounding peaks, including Manaslu, Himlung Himal, Cheo Himal, and others. The crossing of Larke Pass marks a central moment in the trek, leading trekkers from the Manaslu region to the Annapurna region.

Dharmasala (Larke Phedi) – 4460 meters high

Dharmasala, also called Larke Phedi, sits at an altitude of about 4,460 meters (approximately 14,632 feet) above sea level. It is the last overnight stop before crossing the Larke La Pass (5,106 meters / 16,752 feet) on the Manaslu Circuit Trek.

Accommodation here is very basic, consisting of simple tea houses with dormitory-style rooms and a few tents. This is because the area is protected under the Manaslu Conservation Area Project, which does not allow the construction of large lodges or luxury accommodations.

The atmosphere at Dharmasala is cold, windy, and exposed, but it offers stunning views of glaciers and rugged peaks. Due to its remoteness and limited facilities, rooms fill up quickly during the high seasons (March–May and September–November).

Temperatures drop below freezing at night, even in autumn and spring. Therefore, carrying extra layers, a high-quality sleeping bag (comfort rated between -15°C to -20°C), and plenty of snacks is highly recommended.

Most trekkers start their Larke La Pass crossing from Dharmasala around 4–5 AM to avoid strong winds and worsening weather conditions at the pass.

Guide is Mandatory for Manaslu Circuit Trek.

A guide is mandatory for the Manaslu Circuit Trek due to a rule by the Nepal government to ensure safety and sustainability in the restricted regions of the Manaslu Conservation Area. The Manaslu region is classified as a restricted area due to its proximity to the Tibetan border and the cultural sensitivity of the region. Trekkers need to obtain a special permit, which can only be issued through a registered trekking agency, and the government requires all trekkers to be accompanied by a licensed guide.

Trekkers must have at least two members in their group (this can be arranged by High Pass Adventure if you are a solo trekker). Special permits such as the Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP), Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP), and Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP) must be arranged, and a guide will assist in managing these.

The Manaslu Circuit is a remote, high-altitude trek, with the highest point being Larkya La Pass (5,106 meters). Having a guide ensures that you stay on the correct trails and follow a safe acclimatization schedule. The guide can assist in emergencies, including altitude sickness, and help organize rescue operations if necessary.
