Manaslu Circuit Trek Distance and Duration (As per Itinerary)
The Manaslu Circuit Trek covers a total distance of approximately 530 km from Kathmandu to Kathmandu. This includes the road distance from Kathmandu to Machhakhola, the trekking trail from Machhakhola to Tilche, and the return road journey from Tilche to Kathmandu. The complete trek typically takes 12 days to finish.
The breakdown of distances is as follows:
- Kathmandu to Machhakhola (road): approximately 160–165 km
- Machhakhola to Tilche (trekking trail): approximately 140–145 km
- Tilche to Kathmandu (road): approximately 230 km

Day 1: Arrival in Kathmandu and Transfer to Hotel (1,350 m), Overnight at Hotel
High Pass Adventure warmly welcomes you to Nepal at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA). A member of our team will be waiting for you outside the baggage hall, holding an A4-sized sign with your name and our company name.
The representative will escort you to your hotel in Kathmandu via private vehicle. Upon arrival, you can check in, rest, and freshen up before attending a briefing at our trekking office to discuss the details of your standard 12-day Manaslu Circuit Trek program.
Day 2: Trek Preparation Day – Permit Processing and Gear Check (Overnight in Kathmandu)
This is an extra day in Kathmandu to allow you to rest after your long international flight and to prepare for the trek. It also includes the processing and issuance of the special Manaslu Circuit Trek permits. These permits require time, it need your visa details and can only be issued by the Nepal Immigration Office in Kalikasthan during official working days and hours.
You will enjoy breakfast at your hotel and have free time to explore Thamel for any necessary shopping. In the evening, around 4:00–5:00 PM, our guide will meet you to review your trekking equipment and finalize your gear list, helping you decide what to bring and what to leave at the hotel.
If you are missing any trekking equipment, you can buy or rent it in Kathmandu. Any unnecessary items can be safely stored at the hotel or at our office.
Day 3: Drive to Arughat – Sotikhola – Machhakhola (870 m)
Distance: 160–165 km | Duration: 8–10 hours drive | Overnight: Tea house
The Manaslu Circuit Trek begins from Machhakhola. The road distance from Kathmandu to Machhakhola is approximately 160–165 km, which can be traveled by either private or public vehicle.
Your guide will pick you up from your hotel in Kathmandu on time. After breakfast, you will begin your journey to Machhakhola. The drive takes approximately 9–10 hours by public vehicle or 7–8 hours by private vehicle, passing through the scenic hills and landscapes of Nepal.
The road can be rough and bumpy, especially during the final 3 hours from Arughat to Machhakhola. Although the journey is long, it is highly rewarding, offering beautiful views and a unique travel experience.
Day 4: Trek to Jagat (1,400 m)
Distance: 19.5 km | Duration: 6–8 hours | Overnight: Tea house
The trek begins from Machhakhola, offering beautiful scenery as you make your way to Jagat. The total walking distance is approximately 19.5 km, which takes about 6 to 8 hours.
The trail passes through Khorlabesi, Tatopani, Dovan, Bhulbhule, Yaruphant, and Lower Jagat. The route is relatively easy, following a newly constructed road along the riverside. Along the way, you will enjoy pleasant views of the surrounding landscape, occasional waterfalls, and suspension bridges, which enhance the trekking experience.
Jagat serves as the entry point to the Manaslu Conservation Area and is known for its scenic village setting, rugged landscape, and narrow stone-paved lanes.
Day 5: Trek to Deng (1,860 m)
Distance: 20 km | Duration: 6–7 hours | Overnight: Tea house
The trek begins from Jagat and continues to Deng, covering approximately 20 km in about 6 to 7 hours.
The day starts with a walk through a series of small local villages, including Salleri, Philim, Ekle Bhatti, and Pewa, as well as through beautiful bamboo and pine forests. These villages are set against terraced fields on rugged terrain, offering scenic views along the way.
You will have the opportunity to see the majestic Sringi Himal before reaching Philim Village. During the trek, you will cross several suspension bridges over the river. After Ekle Bhatti, the trail reaches the junction of the Tsum Valley and Larke La routes. From there, the trail heads northwest toward Deng, passing through Nyak Phedi and dense bamboo forests.
Day 6: Trek to Namrung (2,630 m)
Distance: 19 km | Duration: 6–7 hours | Overnight: Tea house
Today, you will trek from Deng to Namrung, covering approximately 19 km in about 6 to 7 hours. This is a slightly longer trekking day, with a mix of ascents and descents as you gradually gain altitude, passing through local villages and pine forests.
This day offers excellent trekking conditions and rewards you with the first clear views of major Himalayan peaks, including Sringi Himal, Ganesh Himal, and Kutang Himal, along with other stunning mountains.
You will also experience the culture and lifestyle of the highland communities while enjoying the diverse and beautiful landscapes along the trail.
Day 7: Trek to Shyala Village (3,500 m)
Distance: 18.5 km | Duration: 6–7 hours | Overnight: Tea house
Today, the trek heads from Namrung to Shyala Village, covering approximately 18.5 km in 6 to 7 hours. This will be a slightly longer trekking day with a gradual increase in altitude along gentle ascents and relatively flat mountain trails.
From Namrung, the trail climbs gently through lush green forests to Lihi Village, known for its chortens, barley terraces, and apple orchards. After crossing Lihi, the trail continues to Sho Village, and then to Lho Village, where you will stop for lunch. After lunch, the trek ascends further to reach Shyala Village.
This day is ideal for trekking, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and landscapes while gradually increasing altitude for proper acclimatization.
Day 8: Trek to Samagaun (3,550 m) via Pungyen Monastery (4,040 m)
Distance: 16 km | Duration: 6–7 hours | Overnight: Tea house
Today, the trek heads from Shyala Village to Samagaun. The direct distance from Shyala to Samagaun is approximately 3 km, which takes about 2 hours on foot.
In our itinerary, we take the route via Pungyen Monastery, which is the best option for visiting this historic site and is excellent for acclimatization. The total distance via Pungyen Monastery is approximately 16 km, taking 6 to 7 hours to complete.
This day covers a longer distance and may feel challenging due to the higher elevation. Along the trail, you will have the opportunity to visit the ancient Pungyen Monastery and enjoy spectacular vistas of Manaslu, North Manaslu, Himal Chuli, Nadi Chuli, Naike Peak, Kutang Himal, and Pangbuche Himal.
Day 9: Acclimatization Day at Samagaun
As you ascend above 3,000–3,500 meters, it is crucial to rest for acclimatization to help your body adjust to the increasing altitude. During the rest day at Samagaun, it is recommended to take a short hike 400–500 meters higher to reduce the risk of altitude sickness.
There are several options for day hikes. The main attractions for the day include Manaslu Base Camp and a short hike to Birendra Lake. You can discuss with your guide which areas to explore. All these places offer wonderful hiking experiences with rewarding landscapes and breathtaking mountain views.
Day 10: Trek to Samdo (3,860 m), 5 km walking distance, 3–4 hours walk. Overnight at tea-house
Today involves a relatively easy hike to Samdo Village, covering approximately 5 kilometers, which takes around 3–4 hours. Although the trail is short and relatively gentle, the increasing altitude may make it feel more challenging.
The trail follows the Budhi Gandaki River, passing through alpine forests and crossing a suspension bridge over the river. After the bridge, the trail gradually ascends toward Samdo Village. Expect windy conditions, but enjoy stunning Himalayan views along the way, making this a rewarding trekking day.
Upon reaching Samdo, you will have lunch, and after that, you can take a 1–2 hour hike above the village to help with acclimatization and reduce the risk of altitude sickness.
Day 11: Trek to Larke Phedi (Dharamsala) (4,460 m), 6 km distance, 4–5 hours walk. Overnight at a teahouse (dormitory)
Today’s trek from Samdo to Dharamsala covers approximately 6 kilometers and takes around 4–5 hours. From Samdo Village, the trail begins gently along the Budhi Gandaki River, crossing a suspension bridge over the river.
The trail then ascends northwest toward Larke Bazaar. Once a bustling marketplace, Larke Bazaar is now quieter and no longer retains its former activity. From there, the trail climbs steeply through juniper forests, offering stunning Himalayan landscapes, until reaching Larke Phedi (also known as Dharamsala).
Although the hike is relatively short, the high altitude may make it challenging for some trekkers. Upon arrival, you will have ample time to rest and acclimatize, preparing for the next stage of the trek.
Day 12: Trek to Bhimthang (3,780 m) via Larke Pass (5,160 m), 16 km distance, 8–9 hours walk. Overnight at a tea-house
Today will be a long and challenging day due to the steep ascent and descent, covering approximately 16 kilometers in 8–9 hours. The trek from Larke Phedi (Dharmasala) to Bhimthang involves crossing the Larkya Pass at 5,160 meters, which, while not technically difficult, requires careful pacing.
From Larke Phedi, the trail gradually ascends, passing glacial moraines, frozen lakes, and rocky, sometimes icy or snow-covered terrain. It takes about 4–5 hours to reach the Larkya Pass. Trekkers should walk slowly, paying attention to their bodies, as some may experience mild symptoms of altitude sickness, such as nausea or headaches.
At the top of the pass, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking views of Himlung Himal (7,126 m), Cheo Himal (6,820 m), Gyaji Kung (7,030 m), Kang Guru (6,981 m), and Annapurna II (7,937 m).
The trail then descends steeply along a rocky gorge to Bhimthang. While today involves more walking than most other days, the sense of achievement from crossing the Larkya Pass makes reaching Bhimthang a truly rewarding experience, even if you feel tired.
Day 13: Trek to Tilche (2,300 m), 20 km distance, 7–8 hours walk. Overnight at a tea-house
Today will be a long day as the trek covers approximately 20 kilometers with a steep descent, which may feel longer than expected due to fatigue from crossing the Larkya Pass the previous day.
After breakfast at Bhimthang, enjoying the splendid mountain views, the trail descends toward Tilche, passing through forests and high pastures. Gradually, you leave the alpine climate behind, transitioning into pine and rhododendron forests, and passing through Chauli Kharka, Karche, and Gowa Village.
Along the way, you may spot wildlife and birds, including white monkeys, deer, and the Impeyan pheasant (Nepal’s national bird), before arriving at Tilche Village. Although the day may feel long due to previous exertion, the gentler descent and beautiful surrounding landscapes make the journey both enjoyable and rewarding.
Day 14: Drive to Kathmandu (1,350 m), 230 km distance, 8–9 hours drive. Overnight at hotel
There is a road connecting Tilche to Kathmandu via Besisahar. The total distance is approximately 230 kilometers, and the journey takes about 8–9 hours. The road section from Tilche to Besisahar is narrow and bumpy.
After breakfast in Tilche, you will take a shared jeep to Besisahar, which takes around 3–4 hours. The drive follows the banks of the Marsyangdi River, passing along rocky cliffs and scenic landscapes.
From Besisahar, you will transfer to another vehicle for the drive back to Kathmandu. This part of the journey takes approximately 5–7 hours, following the Marsyangdi and Trishuli Rivers, and offering beautiful views of small towns, villages, rice fields, terraced farms, valleys, and surrounding hills.
Upon arrival in Kathmandu, you will check into your hotel and rest after the long journey. In the evening, you will be invited to a farewell dinner at a Nepali cultural restaurant, where you can enjoy traditional music and dance performances—marking the end of your memorable Manaslu Circuit Trek.
Day 15: Final Departure Day
Today marks the final day of your trip to Nepal. One of our High Pass Adventure staff members will accompany you to Kathmandu International Airport for your departure according to your flight schedule.

Manaslu Circuit Trek permits cost
The Manaslu Circuit Trek route is a restricted area as per the rule and regulations of the Nepal Government. So, you must need a special trekking permit to enter the region. The area is conserved by the Manaslu Conservation area project and Annapurna Conservation Area Project. It requires both permits to enter the region.
The total permits costs are given below:
- Manaslu Restricted Area Permit (RAP): The cost varies depending on the season and the number of days.
Cost: USD 75 per person for the first seven days and an additional USD 10 each day from December to August and USD 100 for the first seven days and an additional USD 15 each day from September to November for all nationality
- Manaslu Conservation Area Permit (MCAP): Required for trekking within the Manaslu Conservation Area.
Cost: SAARC Nationals' entry fee is 1000 (one thousand) Nepali Rupees per person and 3000 (three thousands) Nepali Rupees for others nationality.
- Annapurna Conservation Area Permit (ACAP): Required after crossing the Larke Pass and entering the Annapurna Conservation Area.

There are tea houses and lodges available for accommodation with basic twin sharing rooms during the Manaslu Circuit Trek. The room may have a basic bed with mattress, blanket, bed sheet and pillow. So, I recommend bringing a sleeping bag for warmth and comfort especially at higher altitude. Toilet and bathroom (shower) are the limits in the teahouses, so we have to share with other trekkers.
The teahouses usually offer a variety of local and international dishes but options will be limited compared with cities. You may get local dishes such as chapati, rice (Dal Bhat), potato item, tsampa porridge, Tibetan bread, Sherpa stew, Momo (dumplings), Tenduk, noodles, thukpa etc. They also offer international dishes such as pasta, noodles, pizza, and some baked items but you have to expect the taste is different then western food.
There are many choices of accommodations in a few places and the cost of the accommodations will be expensive in the higher elevation. The tentative cost of the per accommodation range is USD $ 5 to 10 dollars per night. The food cost also gets expensive in the higher elevation. The food cost range is USD $ 5 to 10 dollars per meal. You can have hot drinks along the Manaslu Circuit Trek such as Black tea, milk tea, black coffee, milk coffee, hot chocolate, ginger tea and hot lemon.
