We have only one international airport and lots of border to entry point in Nepal. Nepal Immigration office, TIA (Tribhuvan International Airport) under Department of Immigration has been facilitating tourists flying to Nepal by providing visa on Arrival except all Indian nationals but must have proof of identity.  On Arrival Visa process is very quick and simple expect some queues during peak tourist Season. If you wish to skip those queues, you can also consider visa from Nepalese Diplomatic Missions stationed abroad prior to your arrival. But, if you have obtained visa from Nepalese Diplomatic, you most enter Nepal within six month from visa issued date. Yours total staying day is counting from the day you enter into Nepal. 

If you are visiting Nepal for the different purpose other than Tourism (Travel, Trekking, Hiking, Tours, mountaineering, visiting friends and families) you should get tourist Visa to entry the Nepal. But, you must change the category of visa as per yours purpose and length of stay in Nepal from Department of Immigration by produce required documents. 

Nepal Tourist Visa for Indian: 

Indian passport holders do not require a visa to visit Nepal. However, when traveling to Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu, from any international airport in India, Indian citizens must present a valid Indian passport or Voter Identity Card (Indian Electoral Card). Please note that Aadhaar Card and Driving License are not valid documents for boarding a flight to Kathmandu from Indian airports or for returning from Kathmandu to Indian airports.

  1. Best Option: Visa on Arrival is quick & easy for most travelers.
  2. Apply Online: Save time by filling out the visa application online before arrival.
  3. Cash Payment: Bring USD/EUR/GBP for visa fees (Nepali Rupees are not accepted).
  4. Check Passport Validity: Your passport must be valid for at least 6 months.

Visa Requirements 

  1. Valid passport (with at least 6 months validity and 1 blank page)
  2. Visa fee (in cash, as credit cards are not accepted)
  3. Printed copy of online visa application (if applied online)
  4. Recent passport-sized photo (for safety, but not always required)

Visa on Arrival in Nepal (Easiest & Fastest Option)

Nepal provides Visa on Arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA), Kathmandu, and major land border entry points.

Step-by-Step Process for Visa on Arrival:

Once you arrive at the airport, please follow these simple procedures for Tourist Visa on Arrival.
1st  Step
Fill in ' Arrival Card '
Fill in Online ‘Tourist Visa ‘form (you can fill it up prior to your arrival visiting official website of Department of Immigration / fill it up using Kiosk machines upon your arrival at the airport).  If you fill it from the website, you will get submission Receipt with barcode, please print it out and bring it along for acquiring visa. It works for fifteen days and becomes invalid then after.  If so, you will have to fill it up again.

2nd Step  
Make payment at the bank according to your visa requirement (15/30/90 Days)

Visa fee payment is accepted in USD, Euro, GBP, AUD, CAD, CHF, SGD, HKD, JPY, and INR (Nepali Rupees are not accepted).

Visa Fees:
15 days → USD 30
30 days → USD 50
90 days → USD 125

Get the receipt
While you can use different modes of payments (at visa fees collection counter), we advise you to carry some cash to be on the safe side.

Step 3:

Proceed to the Immigration Desk with your online form, payment receipt, and passport.
Hand over your documents to the immigration officer for visa processing. The officer will issue your visa upon verification and approval.

Visa Extension Fee 

  1. Tourist visa extension is done for minimum 15 days with USD 45 and USD 3 per day for additional days.
  2. In case of delay less than 150 days, additional USD 5 per day as late fine.

Gratis Visa (Visa for Free)

  1. Gratis Visa is issued free of cost in case of following categories of Visa applicants:
  2. Children below 10 years except US citizens
  3. Up to 30 days for SAARC Citizen (except Afghanistan) visiting Nepal for the first time in a given visa Year.  Afghan citizen are eligible for Gratis Visa on Arrival only upon the recommendation of Department of Immigration. If you are an Afghan citizen, you can request concerned institution inviting you to Nepal for necessary paperwork with Department of Immigration to get you Gratis Visa 'On Arrival'.
  4. Non Residential Nepalese (NRN) card holder (issued by MoFA /Nepalese diplomatic missions abroad)
  5. Chinese Nationals
  6. Officials from China, Brazil, Russia and Thailand do not need Entry Visa based on reciprocal visa waiver Agreement

Note: Visas of all kinds including ‘Gratis’ issued at the Airport are Tourist Visas. Contact Department of Immigration for extending your visa or changing the category of your visa. Tourist Visa extension can be done from Immigration Office, Pokhara too. Non tourist visa extension can be done only at Department of Immigration (if eligible) for a period of maximum one year (except business visa).
