The western and eastern borders to the north of Nepal are highly preserved region and were only opened for trekking since early 90s. The western border lies in the rain shadow area behind the Himalayan chain and are usually arid, dry and high that extends to Tibetan plateau. The people living in this region are Tibetan descendants who migrated across border centuries ago. They are basically poor and live in remote and small isolated village who make their livelihood rearing animals and farming. Wilderness trekking in this region offers vast and enthralling beauty of highland Nepal that resembles to that of Tibetan Plateau. 

Eastern region trekking, in the contrary is filled with verdant farmland and spectacular forest range rich in flora and fauna. Kanchenjunga is the highest point of the region and counted as the 3rd highest peak in the world.  The mountainous terrains and landscapes traverses through off-beaten track and the views are simply nearby base camp while Upper Dolpa Trek is fully Camping trek. Wilderness trekking in Nepal is humbling.

Trekking permit is mandatory for traveling to restricted areas like Tsum Valley, Upper Mustang, Upper Dolpo while trekkers must be accompanied by legally registered guide and porter and importantly visitor must be in a group of at least two person. The provision for expensive permit is made in order to flourish this remote region and protect the fragile environment and diverse culture of Tibetan communities living in these areas.  Wilderness trekking in Nepal offers both sort of accommodation either tea house or camping mode.
