From Kyanjin Gompa, you can hike to Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri for panoramic mountain views before returning to Dovan to head towards Gosaikunda Lake. Many trekkers love to stop overnight at Laurebinayak, which offers fascinating views of sunrise and sunset along with the Langtang and Ganesh Himal mountain ranges. The next morning, you'll reach Gosaikunda Lake, famous for its sacred waters and as a perfect place to explore the surrounding lakes set among high gray rocks.
From Gosaikunda, you can either return by the same route or cross the Laurebina Pass (4,620m / 15,107 feet) to the Helambu area. Helambu is renowned for its natural beauty, unique landscapes, local Buddhist culture, and lifestyle, as well as panoramic views of magnificent mountains and peaks. After visiting Helambu, the trek ends at Melamchi Bazaar or Sundarijal, from where you will return to your hotel in Kathmandu.
Langtang Valley is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, lush forests, and traditional Tamang village. This serene valley is surrounded by majestic peaks, including Langtang Village, which features traditional Tibetan-style houses and offers views of Langtang Lirung (7,227m) and the surrounding peaks. The valley provides an intimate trekking experience with spectacular scenery and a rich glimpse into the local culture.
Kyanjin Gompa is a significant monastery situated at an altitude of 3,870 meters and serves as a central point of the Langtang Valley trek. The monastery, along with the surrounding mountain vistas—including Langtang Lirung, Yala Peak (5,500m), and the Langtang Glacier—offers a unique experience. Visitors can explore the monastery, interact with monks, and enjoy panoramic views of the Himalayas.
A popular viewpoint at 4,773 meters offers spectacular views of the Langtang Valley and surrounding peaks. Another excellent viewpoint, situated at 5,000 meters, provides panoramic views of the Langtang range, Ganesh Himal, and even Mount Everest on clear days. Both viewpoints offer rewarding hikes with breathtaking vistas of snow-capped peaks and glaciers.
Gosaikunda is a sacred high-altitude lake located at 4,380 meters, revered by both Hindus and Buddhists. The lake is surrounded by snow-capped peaks and alpine meadows. Trekking to Gosaikunda involves traversing beautiful landscapes and reaching a spiritual site of great religious significance.
Lauribina Pass, at 4,610 meters, is a high mountain pass that connects the Gosaikunda region to the Helambu region. The pass offers breathtaking views of the surrounding peaks and the valley below. Crossing the pass is a challenging but rewarding experience, providing panoramic vistas and a profound sense of accomplishment.
The Helambu region is known for its Sherpa and Hyolmo cultures, with picturesque villages nestled in terraced fields and lush forests. Villages such as Tarkeghyang, Melamchi Gaon, and Sermathang offer a glimpse into the local way of life. The Helambu trek section provides a rich cultural experience, featuring traditional architecture, monasteries, and opportunities to interact with friendly locals.
Trekking to Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu for 15 days is quite a long duration for some trekkersin the Langtang Region, but it is a breathtaking adventure that requires careful preparation to ensure a safe, memorable, and enjoyable experience. Physical fitness, hiking training, mental health, determination, and previous trekking experience are important factors. Additionally, packing the right gear, keeping it necessary but light, is essential before participating in the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek.
If you lack previous trekking experience, you need to build endurance and strength through activities such as walking, day hiking, running, biking, jogging, and swimming. These practices are beneficial in preparing for the trek because the journey takes you through farmland, terraces, diverse landscapes, narrow trails, forests, rocky paths, and altitudes that gain from 1600 meters to 5000 meters. The trek involves numerous ascents and descents, requiring a good level of physical fitness to maintain 5 to 8 hours of daily trekking.
Mental flexibility is equally crucial, as self-doubt can often lead to discomfort and anxiety. It is highly recommended to seek medical advice from a doctor prior to embarking, especially if you have respiratory concerns. Travel insurance is also important, and we recommend getting insurance that covers emergency evacuation for the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek, as the trek takes place in a remote area where emergency medical care may be difficult to access. Additionally, adhering to an acclimatization schedule is crucial to avoid altitude sickness and other illnesses.
In summary, physical fitness, packing the right gear, and booking with an experienced and reputable trekking agency are key factors in preparing to successfully complete the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek.

The Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek is situated in the Langtang region within Langtang National Park, north of Kathmandu. This trek combines three distinct areas: Langtang Valley, Gosaikunda Lake, and the Helambu region.
Langtang National Park, established in 1976, is the first Himalayan national park and the fourth protected area in Nepal. The park is located in the north-central part of Nepal, about 50 kilometers straight north from the Kathmandu Valley. It covers an area of 1,710 square kilometers, spanning the Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Sindhupalchok districts in the central Himalayan region, and encompasses 26 Village Development Committees. The park's western boundary is formed by the Bhote Kosi and Trishuli rivers, the northern and eastern boundaries by the border with Tibet, China, and the southern boundary is located 30 kilometers north of Kathmandu city.
The best seasons for Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu trekking are spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). These seasons offer the most favorable weather conditions, stunning scenery, and excellent visibility for enjoying the breathtaking views of the Himalayas. They are also the best times for a safe and enjoyable trek to Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu due to clean air, minimal rain and snow compared to other seasons, and manageable trail conditions.
In March, early spring brings still quite cold temperatures at higher altitudes. Snow may still be present on some passes, but temperatures begin to rise. Daytime temperatures are comfortable for trekking; however, nights can be cold, especially above 3,500 meters. April is considered the best month for the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek because temperatures continue to warm up, days become longer, and rhododendrons and other flowers are in full bloom, adding vibrant colors to the trek. In May, the weather is warmer, and the trails become more accessible. Daytime temperatures can reach 20°C (68°F) or higher at lower elevations. The higher regions are more comfortable for trekking, though there is a higher chance of pre-monsoon showers towards the end of the month. May is also an excellent time for the Trekking in Nepal Himalayan, making it a recommended period for all trekkers undertaking demanding routes in Nepal.
September marks the beginning of the autumn season, so the monsoon season ends, leaving the trails lush and green. Early September may still experience some residual rain, but as the month progresses, the weather stabilizes. It is essential to prepare with rain gear for this month. However, visibility for views may sometimes be limited. October is the middle of autumn and is considered the best month for Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek in the Langtang region. The weather is stable, the skies are clear, and temperatures are moderate.
November is the end of the autumn season, so the weather remains clear and stable, but temperatures start to drop, especially in the latter half of the month. Nights can be quite cold, dropping below freezing at higher elevations. During this month, proper preparation for cold weather and an experienced trekking is essential for successfully completing the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek without any problem.
If you wish to avoid crowds and enjoy some alone time with nature and culture, you can do this trip during the winter (January and February) and summer (June to August) but you may face some difficulties.
Winter season: The extreme cold can make Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu trekking difficult and uncomfortable. Proper gear, an experienced guide, a strong porter, and thorough preparation are essential. Heavy snowfall can make the routes more challenging and sometimes impassable. Some teahouses and lodges may be closed due to the cold and fewer trekkers, especially at higher altitudes. Winter is only recommended for those seeking a challenging adventure, as it offers a unique and demanding trekking experience.
Summer Season: The summer season is the rainy season in Nepal, making travel to the starting point and ending point of the trek difficult because trails can be muddy and slippery, with landslides and falling rocks being more common in some areas. Visibility may be reduced due to frequent cloud cover and fog. The increased presence of leeches and insects is likely due to the wet conditions. Some teahouses and lodges along the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu trekking trail may be closed or offer limited services. However, this season is ideal for experiencing lush, green landscapes with fewer crowds and lower costs. It does involve dealing with heavy rain, mud, and reduced visibility, so an experienced guide and proper trekking gear are essential.
Accommodation options along the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu trek route are generally basic in some area due to its remote, less-traveled, and rugged nature. There are limited teahouses, each with limited accommodations, but some popular places are increasing their number of teahouses and fencier. During the peak season, it can be difficult to find accommodation in a few places, but guides can manage accommodations by making advance bookings via phone calls. Local people are keen to increase the popularity of this route, so all teahouses strive to provide the best service for all travelers.
Normally, lodges offer basic private accommodation (typically with 2 beds per room) for twin-sharing, equipped with beds, blankets, and pillows. The bathrooms are commonly shared indoor facilities with squat toilets, and sometimes hot showers are available, often using solar power or a gas geyser for an additional charge. Charging electronic devices is usually possible for a fee, although it's recommended to carry a power bank. Every lodge has a communal dining area with a heater, especially in higher altitudes, where trekkers can eat, relax, and socialize with others.
During the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambhu trek, food options primarily consist of local Nepali and Tibetan dishes, with some basic Western options available in more developed areas. Nowadays, every teahouse has a food menu, and the food items are almost the same at every teahouse in each location. You can choose food from the menu based on your requirements. Most teahouses grow fresh vegetables in their gardens and serve them to customers, especially at lower altitudes.
The cooks are generally trained, often hired from more urban areas, but the taste of the food might differ from Western cuisine. It is advisable to eat vegetarian during the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek because it can be difficult to obtain fresh meat due to the remote location and the predominantly Buddhist community along the trekking routes.

Safe drinking water is crucial during the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek due to its length and high-altitude terrain. Staying hydrated is vital for completing the journey successfully, especially at high altitudes. It's recommended to consume bottled, boiled, or treated water to prevent waterborne illnesses and high altitude sickness. Bottled water is available at teahouses and shops along the trek, with prices increasing as altitude rises, typically ranging from NPR 100 to NPR 500 per liter.
It's highly recommended that all trekkers bring a reusable water bottle for refilling from natural water sources. Many natural sources such as streams, rivers, and taps are available along the trek, but this water should always be purified before drinking. Methods for purification include water purification tablets, filters, or UV purification. Your guide can also provide information about safe drinking water sources during the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek.
The difficulty level of the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu 15 days Trek is considered moderate to challenging due to is durations of the trek, variety of terrain, including steep ascents and descents, rocky paths, and possibly some snow-covered sections, especially around the higher areas. Weather conditions in the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trekking route are always changeable, with cold temperatures and the possibility of snowfall, especially at higher altitudes. So this makes the trek physically challenging.
The trail is well-maintained, with a mix of uphill and downhill terrain at progressively increasing altitudes. Starting with the first night at an altitude of 1350 meters, the trek ascends to 5,000 meters at Tserko Ri. This trek typically takes 15 days. Moderate fitness is required, but good health, physical fitness, and mental preparedness to ascend to 5,000 meters are highly recommended. Some experience in multi-day hiking or trekking is beneficial.
The walking distances are manageable, taking you through farmland, local villages, and lush rainforests, with a gradual increase in altitude. From Langtang village to Tseko Ri in the Langtang Valley and from Sing Gompa to Lauribinayak to get the Helambu, the trail becomes more challenging due to significant altitude gain and rugged terrain, but it is generally not extreme. Proper acclimatization days, such as staying at Kyanjin Gompa, help trekkers adjust to the elevation and minimize the risk of altitude sickness.
The trek to Langtang, Gosaikunda, and Helambu, spending 15 days in the mountains, is definitely not simple due to its high altitude. Some sections of the trail are relatively challenging, with steep slopes and rocky terrain within lush bamboo, rhododendron and pine forests. Some parts of the trail can be prone to landslides and avalanches. Snowfall and rainfall can make the trek more challenging, so it is important to prepare with proper seasonal equipment.
Having a guide and porter is highly recommended for successfully completing the 15 days Langtang Gosainkunda Helambu Trek without difficulties. A guide will provide valuable information and assistance, while a porter will carry your luggage, making your trip to Manaslu Tsum Valley more enjoyable and hassle-free.
An acclimatization day is necessary during the 15 - days Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek because it is located in high-altitude terrain, with Kyanjin Gompa at 3,800 meters and Lauribinak Pass at 4,600 meters. The trek starts at 1,350 meters Syabru Besi and you gradually climb to 4,600 meters at Lauribinayak Pass after visiting Langtang Valley, passing through several villages and high-altitude places. As you ascend, oxygen levels and air pressure decrease compared to sea level. Once you reach an altitude above 3,000 meters, you may experience symptoms of altitude sickness, such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, headaches, loss of appetite, tiredness, dizziness, and sleeplessness.
So, at the Kyanjin Gompa is our acclimatization rest day in our itinerary. This rest days help prevent altitude sickness and allow you to adapt to the environment. If you experience any symptoms of altitude sickness during the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek, it is important to address them immediately to avoid difficulties in completing the trek. To prevent these issues, you should follow your guide's instructions, as they are knowledgeable about high-altitude sickness.
When ascending on the 3,000 meters, be honest with your guide about how you are feeling. Your guide will advise you to walk slowly and may suggest that you sleep at a lower altitude before ascending further. This practice, known as acclimatization, helps reduce the risk of altitude sickness.
To prevent altitude sickness, you should follow the itinerary closely, as proper acclimatization helps your body adapt to higher elevations. Additionally, stay hydrated by drinking plenty of water, eat a well-balanced diet with sufficient carbohydrates, maintain a comfortable pace, and avoid alcohol and sedatives. By adhering to these guidelines, you can reduce the risk of altitude sickness and have a safer and more enjoyable trek on the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu. However, if you continue to feel unwell despite following these recommendations, you should return to a lower altitude.
The Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trekking route is situated inside the Langtang National Park so you need to purchase a Langtang National Park permit. Another required permit is the TIMS (Trekkers Information Management System) card. The TIMS card is for your safety and security, as it helps keep track of trekkers' whereabouts in the region. Both permits are mandatory for the Annapurna Sunrise View Trek.
These permits obtained from a reputable trekking company through the Tourism Board (Bhrikuti Mandap). You or your guide must carry these permits throughout the trek, as you need to show them and register at every check post along the trail. If you attempt to trek without these permits, you will need to purchase them on-site at double the cost (as a penalty) or you may be forced to turn back.

You can choose public or private transport depending on your budget and preference. If you use public transport, the public bus station is Machha Pokhari near the Balaju bus station to Syabrubesi. So choose the right transportation option depends on your budget, comfort preference, and group size.

If you are trekking to Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu with just a guide, it will be a cheaper journey, but the guide will not carry your luggage because they are professionals and have their own luggage to carry. In this case, you can hire a porter-cum-guide who handles both guiding and carrying your luggage, typically about 10 to 12 kg. If you are in a group, we usually assign one porter for every two trekkers, so each trekker's luggage should weigh around 10 kg. If you hire a Porter, a porter typically carries 20 to 25 kg during the trek in Nepal.
Trekking with both a guide and a porter highly recommended because they makes walking easier and gives you more free time to enjoy the trek, resulting in a memorable trekking experience in Nepal during the Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek.
Good mobile phone coverage is available along some of the trek route, particularly in more developed areas. However, coverage can be irregular or non-existent in more remote sections, especially at higher altitudes. You can buy a local SIM card (Ncell or Nepal Telecom) in Kathmandu, which will provide coverage in many areas along the trek, though data speed and reliability may vary. If you do not have a Nepali SIM card, our Nepali guide will help you contact your family and update the head office about the trek.
Internet services are available in many lodges along the entire Langtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek. Teahouses and lodges provide internet access for an extra charge. However, in places like Syabrubesi, Chisapani, the quality and speed are good, and they may offer it free of charge. Electric power sources are available in lodges, but they charge extra, so battery life can be a concern. Carry a portable power bank to keep your devices charged is highly recommended for Lanhtang Gosaikunda Helambu Trek.
Communication is important for travel because traveling is a part of human life, and tourism is as old as human civilization. We are committed to making your travel safety and more enjoyable.
The guide and porter are essential to the success of the trip, ensuring it is completed smoothly and without issues. Tipping is an important aspect of trekking in Nepal, as it acknowledges and appreciates the hard work of the local staff who assist you throughout your journey. It is customary to tip at the end of the trek, and you should gather all team members (guide, porter, assistant guide) together to distribute the tip. Tips are generally given in cash, preferably in US dollars or Nepalese rupees, and it's best to have small denominations to make distribution easier.
While the typical guideline is to tip around 10% of the total payable amount, you can adjust this based on the quality of service provided. Recommended tipping amounts are as follows:
These tips are highly recommended to motivate the team and reward them for their outstanding service, contributing to a memorable and inspiring experience.
Travel equipment is essential to pack before your trip. Below is the recommended packing list. We understand it may seem like a lot to carry from home, so we suggest packing light and bringing only the necessary items. If you’re missing something, you can hire or buy it in Kathmandu, especially around Thamel.
These general items are suitable for all seasons while trekking in Nepal, but the list may vary depending on the season and the duration of your chosen trek. Wonderful Langtang Gosainkunda Trek
18th June, 2023
Nothing organized in advance, we arrived at Kathmandu but our friends recommended to High Pass Adventure. We contacted to them when we arrived in airport and they come pick up to us and transfer to hotel. The same day we discussed about trekking to Langtang Gosainkunda Trek and meet our guide Rohit and fixed starting the trek the day after.
