Everest Base camp Trek Cost Breakdown

Following above day by day itinerary, the breakdown cost is given below

Transportation Cost:

Round trip arrival and departure by private car or taxi from the airport to Thamel and Thamel to airport costs USD 20 per person.
After arriving at Kathmandu airport, you will need to go to your hotel in Thamel. For your departure, you will also need to go to the airport by private vehicle, as it will be more comfortable and faster.

The standard Everest Base Camp trek starts from Lukla, which requires a flight to reach. The flight costs USD 217 per person one way, totaling USD 434 for a round trip.

During the main trekking seasons, from mid-March to May and mid-September to November, all Lukla flights operate from Ramechhap. To catch the flight, you need to drive to Ramechhap, which costs USD 100 per car, accommodating 3 to 4 people. The round-trip flight cost to Lukla from Ramechhap is USD 380 per person, which means USD 190 one way.

These flights allow a maximum weight of 15 kilograms, including hand luggage. If you exceed this limit, you will need to pay NPR 150 per extra kilogram. Therefore, we highly recommend packing light. For any extra baggage or luggage, you can leave it at your hotel in Kathmandu or tour operator office.

Kathmandu Valley sightseeing cost:

Most trekkers want to visit the Kathmandu Valley, including Bhaktapur Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple, and Boudhanath Stupa, to explore the historical sites, architectural buildings, and experience Hindu and Buddhist culture and lifestyle before starting the Everest Base Camp trek.

The cost of the Kathmandu Valley Sightseeing is USD 110 per person which is including all entrance fees in these sites, tour guide and private vehicle.

Require Permits and cost

For the Everest Base Camp trek, you'll need two permits to enter the region: the Sagarmatha National Park Entrance Permit and the Khumbu Pasang Lhamu Rural Municipality Entrance Permit. The cost of each permit is NPR 3,000 per person. This means the total cost for both permits is NPR 6,000, and they are valid for a single entry. There is no time limit, but if you plan a 12-day trek and exit the region 7-8 days early, the permits will no longer be valid if you wish to re-enter. In such cases, you will need to purchase new permits.

Guide and Porter cost:

A guide and porter are essential for the Everest Base Camp trek. Guides provide valuable information about the trek, culture, and surroundings, while porters carry your belongings, allowing you to focus on enjoying the trek and the natural beauty. You have the option to hire a guide, a porter, or both for the trek. Guides generally charge between $25 to $35 per day, and a porter charge $20 to $30 per day. However, these costs may vary depending on the season and the trekking agency.

Accommodations cost:

During the Everest Base Camp trek, there are various qualities of accommodations, including tea houses, lodges, and hotels, ranging from basic to luxury. Basic accommodations typically offer twin-sharing rooms with shared bathrooms located outside the bedroom. Standard accommodations include private bathrooms. The cost of accommodations varies, typically ranging from $5 to $20 per night per room for normal tea houses, with higher prices at higher altitudes. If you prefer luxurious accommodations, there are several options available, but the cost is significantly higher, ranging from $150 to $300 or more per person per night.

Food and drinks cost:

Along the Everest Base Camp trek, teahouses and lodges offer a variety of meals, ranging from basic local dishes to western options like pizza, noodles, and meat. The cost of food varies depending on the location, type of teahouse, and altitude. As you ascend to higher elevations, food prices also increase. On average, the cost of a meal ranges from $5 to $15. Hot drinks, such as black tea or lemon ginger honey tea, cost $1 to $5 per cup. Boiled water costs $2 to $7 per liter, while bottled water ranges from NPR 100 to NPR 500.

Miscellaneous Expenses cost:

In addition to the costs for transport, food, guide, porter, drinks, permits, and Kathmandu Valley sightseeing, there are also miscellaneous expenses such as snacks, internet (Wi-Fi), hot showers (where available), and charging electronic devices. These additional expenses cover unexpected but necessary items. For these, you should budget approximately $10 to $15 per day.
